Keynote Speakers

 

Anette Eva Fasang is Professor of Sociology at the Department of Social Science at Humboldt University of Berlin. She received a PhD in Sociology from the Bremen International Graduate School of Social Sciences at Jacobs University Bremen and conducted postdoctoral research at the Center for Research on Inequalities and the Life Course at Yale University and at Columbia University. From 2011 to 2014, she was Assistant Professor of Demography at Humboldt University of Berlin. From 2011 to 2019 she was head of the research group Demography and Inequality at the WZB Berlin Social Science Center. Anette Eva Fasang holds an honorary doctorate from the University of Turku and has won the Rosabeth Moss Kanter Award for Excellence in Work-Family Research in 2018 and 2023. She is currently the academic director of the Berlin Graduate School of Social Sciences and Chair of the Department of Social Sciences at Humboldt University of Berlin. Her research interests include life course sociology, social demography, comparative welfare state research, family sociology and quantitative methods for longitudinal data analysis. Recent work has appeared in the American Journal of Sociology, Demography, Population and Development Review, and Sociological Methodology.

 

Juho Härkönen is Professor of Sociology at the European University Institute, while on leave from Stockholm University. Most recently, he was Director of the EUI’s Max Weber Programme for Postdoctoral Studies in 2021-2025 and he is editor-in-chief of Advances in Life Course Research. His research covers topics in life course research, social stratification and social demography, and more specifically, he has particularly studied the causes and consequences of separation, educational inequality, health inequalities and their consequences, and labour market and occupational inequalities over the life course. He has published in sociological, demographic and epidemiological journals, and his recent works have appeared in British Journal of Cancer, Circulation, European Journal of Political Research, European Journal of Population, European Sociological Review, Journal of Marriage and Family, Social Science Research, and Population and Development Review. He got his PhD at the EUI in 2007.
